Being a BITMO Tenant

You are a Leeds City Council tenant, with all the advantages that brings. Housing Leeds is a large organisation with a lot of resources. You have rights, like the Right to Buy and a secure tenancy (new tenants have an intital period as Introductory Tenants).

You also the advantages brought to you because your area is run by a tenant management organisation.

Among the benefits that BITMO provides are:

  • Having a housing reception where you can go in and speak to housing staff directly
  • A caretaking service
  • The BITMOs GATE community resource centre, where you can get help finding a new job, training or college course, support to use computers, sessions to help with weight management or stop smoking and advice on benefits and debt – as well as many classes and groups from guitar to arts and crafts to a community café.
  • Major decisions being taken by a Board, with a majority of elected tenants, that focusses on Building a Better Future for Belle Isle.

Every five years BITMO tenants and leaseholders have a vote to decide if BITMO should continue to manage the estate. The most recent ballot was in September 2019. 1093 people voted, with 96% voting for BITMO to continue. The next ballot will be held in September 2024.

    BITMO hours over the holidays

    BITMO’s housing office – the housing counter and the telephone service – will be business as normal until 5pm on Monday 23 December.

    Tuesday 24 December – 9am-1pm

    Wednesday 25 December – CLOSED

    Thursday 26 December – CLOSED

    Friday 27 December – 10am-4pm

    Monday 30 December -10am-4pm

    Tuesday 31 December – 10am-1pm

    Wednesday 1 January – CLOSED

    If you have an emergency when the office is closed, please call the Out of Hours Emergency Number 0113 376 0499.

    BITMO’s Board has opened a new Winter Warmth Fund for this winter. The Board understand the cost of living crisis that is affecting many people and have allocated money from their budget to pay for goods that can help you and your family keep warm this winter.

    BITMO households in need of extra support can apply for a winter warmth pack which will contain large fleecy sherpa blankets, hot water bottles with covers and fleecy socks, with the amounts depending on how many people are in our household.
