Aids & Adaptations

Ask for help making your home more suitable for you

If you have a disability, illness or condition that affects your mobility we might be able adapt your home to make it more suitable for your needs. This can be as small as a grab rail or as large as a through floor lift or wet floor shower.

Adaptations fall under 2 categories

  • Minor – such as or internal and external handrails, grabrails, drop down rails by the toilet, toilet frames, adjusting electrical sockets and window locks. We can normally provide these quickly. Please contact BITMO about minor adaptations. (link to report a repair contact section)
  • Major adaptations – these require a recommendation from an Occupational Therapist

Examples of major adaptations are wetfloor showers, overbath showers, bath replacement trays, through- floor lifts, steplifts, stairlifts (curved or straight), external ramps – permanent or modular, outward opening doors and Pad, Hoists, Extensions, adjustable height kitchens, Closamat toilets, fencing for child protection.

If your home is not suitable for adaptation or adapting it is not considered practical or value for money we will work with you to find suitable alternative accommodation.

You can read BITMO’s Disabled Adaptions Policy below

For major adaptations please call Adult Social Care on 0113 222 4401, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. If you are unable to speak to us using the phone, please email us at feedback@leeds.gov.uk.
