This accessibility statement applies to belleisletmo.co.uk, the primary website for Belle Isle Tenant Management Organisation Ltd in Belle Isle, Leeds, UK.

This website is run by BITMO and Orange Crush Digital Ltd. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 150% on selected text, without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text without 3rd party software
  • There’s a limit to how much you can enlarge text via our interface

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

BITMO is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below:

Non-accessible content

Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
Some text that is white and against the corporate colours (green, orange) falls short of the recommended ratio. Please use the colour contrast button at the top of the page.

Success Criterion 1.4.4 Resize text
Text can be resized to 200%. Titles can be resized to 150%, which is slightly lower than the recommendation. We feel a 200% increase for titles, which are already larger, would be excessive based on the font choice and layout.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some existing images may not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

Each image uploaded via the CMS from 29 April 2021 will have alternative text provided where the image is relevant to the understanding of the text..

Some content doesn’t meet the recommended contrast ratio minimum of 4.5:1. This is where the corporate colours have been used and we are unable to adjust them. Please use the colour contrast button at the top of the page.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing information and updates for our services. For example, we have comprehensive PDF newsletters available. Due to the nature and design of these newsletters, some of the content may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are in the process of replacing all forms that are in a PDF or Word format with e-forms.

Live video
We currently do not host live video. Should we do so, we do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We will review the accessibility of the website annually and as and when new resources are added or regulations change. This will involve our own testing, but also the testing and feedback from a variety of general web users who will be visiting the site the most, many of whom have differing levels of IT experience and ability.

Our website contains a large volume of information, some of which is essential, and we are committed to making sure that everyone who needs the information is able to access it successfully.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 30/04/2021. It was last reviewed on 17/09/2020.

This website was last tested on 17/09/2020. The test was carried out by Orange Crush Digital Ltd.

As well as performing our own general testing of the website, we engaged a suitable 3rd party group of local individuals of mixed background and ability to use the website and provide feedback. This was done virtually and was limited as a result (due to COVID-19). We would normally perform more intensive user-testing in a physical environment and intend to reassess the website accessibility when conditions allow us to do so.
